About A Phenomenological Approach to Understanding Early Adult Friendships of TCKs
This phenomenological study explored early adult friendship formation in six ATCKs at a US university. Four difficulties were identified: a persistent restlessness, a constant desire for stimulation, a need to fill a void in friendships, and having a sense of multiple selves in multicultural contexts — a chameleon-like quality. The ATCKs in the study felt personal characteristics differed widely from nationals with whom relationships were built, hindering the ability to form and maintain friendships. Published in the Journal of Asia Pacific Counseling.
