This systematic review compiled descriptive tables of studies and reviewed key findings across the three most-researched domains in TCK research — emotional, relational, and identity development. The review used the EBSCO PsycINFO database, focused on psychosocial issues, and narrowed from 399 articles to 31 meeting inclusion criteria. It highlighted discussions about the lack of standardization in TCK definitions, challenges in TCK research methodology, and suggestions for future directions. Tan et al. (2021) found that TCKs may suffer from increased levels of depression and anxiety along with identity formation issues.
