About An Examination of Mental Health Promotion within International Schools and Current Reform Practices that can Benefit Third Culture Kids

This mixed-methods study examined mental health promotion in international schools and its relevance to TCK wellbeing. A survey of 205 international schools found the level of counseling services available to TCKs was low. Cultural adjustment coupled with academic environment adjustment can lead TCKs to depression, low self-esteem, and other mental health struggles. The study found a positively correlated connection between the availability of counseling and student population size — larger schools were more likely to offer counseling. Published in the International Journal of Educational Reform.
