This study explored what characteristics shared by ATCKs allow them to function well in cross-cultural or multicultural contexts in adulthood. Four factors were isolated as antecedents of dynamic cross-cultural competence (DCC): living in a variety of different countries in childhood, exposure to several languages, a variety of ethnic make-up in the TCK family structure, and an openness to cross-cultural experience. The implications of the study were that ATCKs could make potentially successful expatriates themselves and bring significant cross-cultural value to organizations.
