This literature review identified two key components of a successful TCK transition: transition programs and counselors to help TCKs through transitions. Of international schools surveyed, one in five had no formal transition program. Of those having programs, almost all focused on arrival rather than departure. The review cited Reeves' work on transition programs at an international school in Germany as a model, including student involvement groups, orientation programs, buddy systems, parent support, and counselor-led departure meetings.
