About Narratives of Third Culture Kids: Commitment and Reticence in Social Relationships
This qualitative study explored TCK social relationships and found that TCKs show reticence in forming deep relationships due to a history of loss and transition, yet those relationships formed are characterized by deep commitment. TCKs reported feeling unable to fully trust or invest in relationships due to the expectation of future separation. The study identified grief and unresolved loss as underlying factors in relational reticence. Published in The Qualitative Report (open access).
