About No Place to Call Home: Cultural Homelessness, Self-Esteem and Cross-Cultural Identities
This quantitative study developed and tested a measure of cultural homelessness — the experience of not fully belonging to any one culture — in samples of cross-cultural individuals including TCKs. Key findings: cultural homelessness is linked to lower self-esteem and more complex identity experiences. The study provides empirical support for the concept of cultural homelessness as a distinct psychological phenomenon experienced by TCKs and other globally mobile individuals. Published in the International Journal of Intercultural Relations.
