This paper was written to inform professional school counselors who have no prior knowledge of the TCK experience. The authors define the term TCK, outline the need for TCK-specific counseling services, and lay out a description of the lived experiences of TCKs and the types of issues and struggles TCKs tend to have. Key implication: counselors need specific training to recognize and support TCKs, who often present with issues that can be misunderstood or misdiagnosed without knowledge of the TCK experience.
