About Transculturals: Identifying the Invisible Minority
This conceptual paper introduced the concept of transculturals — people who cannot claim membership in any single culture — as an invisible minority in counseling and mental health settings. TCKs are identified as a primary transcultural population. The paper identifies struggles including depression, feelings of loneliness and displacement, inability to trust, and other issues relating to high mobility. The author argues that family life is the most important factor in promoting wellness for TCKs living between cultures.
